My Favorite Self-Help Books + Podcasts
Well, 2018 has been off to an interesting start. I've experienced some high highs, and some low lows, and as a result, have spent the majority of this year so far (ha) indulging in some extra (and much-needed) self-care.
After posting about my rather rough start to the year on my Instagram stories, a sweet, sweet girl who's been following me for a while now (and even was sweet enough to come out to my TED talk!) suggested that I make a post about my favorite self-help books and podcasts, so, here it is! I think this is a great topic, and such a timely one, in that. Not just for myself, but for everyone, as we begin to kickstart those resolutions into action and spend a moment or two reflecting on the ways in which we can better ourselves. Literally, could not be a more perfect time for a post like this.
So in per-Hannah fashion, I included not only by favorite self-help books and podcasts, but also a bonus "recommended readings" section with my favorite self-help "medium". As I'm writing this, I'm realizing that most of my so-called "self-help" medias are really more on the "spiritual" side of things than the "self-help" side of things, but hey, who says the two don't go hand-in-hand, right?
So, without further ado, let's get into it.
B O O K S
- The Universe Has Your Back, May Cause Miracles, and Judgment Detox by Gabby Bernstein
Gabby Bernstein is easily one of my favorite spiritual coaches in the game. Not only is she incredibly insightful, but she's young, relatable, and clear. Her messages are easy to understand, unlike many spiritual coaches (*cough* I'm looking at your Deepak Chopra), and are a great introduction to the world of spirituality if you're a newbie, or they're great if you're looking to expand your perceptions within this lifestyle.
- The Secret by Rhonda Byrne
This is what most people think of when they think of the Law of Attraction. Even though this book is a mere copycat / retelling of the teachings of Abraham Hicks, it's nevertheless a great, easy introduction for those who are interested in learning more about the Law of Attraction, but don't quite know where to start.
- What I know for Sure by Oprah
Ah, Oprah. I don't know about you, but I love Oprah, and love her even more after that incredible Golden Globes speech she gave the other day. But let's face it, who doesn't love Oprah? To me, she's like our resident therapist meets TV mom. So it's no doubt that she has a lot of life lessons she can give, and this book is full of a lot of them. I've read this book several times over the years, and end up learning something new every time, thanks to momma Oprah. Whether you're spiritual or not, I recommend picking up this book and seeing what you can take from it. I believe it truly has something for everyone.

" R E C O M M E N D E D R E A D I N G S "
While this technically isn't just readings, I believe that one of the best self-help "mediums", if you want to call it that, is Abraham Hicks. Essentially dubbed as the "founder" of the Law of Attraction and the creator of this modern spiritual movement, Abraham Hicks is an incredible, enlightening resource for those looking to dive deeper into their spiritual practices and really become the creators of their own life. Now, whether this is the right segway into this lifestyle or not is entirely up to you- Abraham Hicks has a sort of "out there" background (which you can read more about here) and their talks are a bit wordy. While I believe that their messages can and should resonate with literally anyone, their medium may not, so again, that's up to you, and I can't push you one way or another. I'm only sharing it because it personally resonates with me and has help shift my life. Again, if you're confused with what I'm talking about, this article sums up Abraham Hicks better than I ever could.
Now with that said, the teachings of Abraham Hicks are available in book form, or, my personal favorite, in lectures! If you simply search "Abraham Hicks" into YouTube you will find thousands upon thousands of hours of lectures from over the years, all of them covering different subjects, from money to love to health and abundance, etc. I love to put them on in the background when I'm cleaning, getting ready, or even just answering emails. It's a great way to expand your perceptions without taking extra time out of your day to do additional research.
*Also on a side note: I'm going to a LIVE Abraham Hicks workshop in San Francisco next month and I am S O excited! My mom got me tickets for Christmas and I literally cannot wait.*
And that's it! As of right now (Jan 2017) these are the "self-help" books, podcasts, and "recommended readings" ;) that are resonating with me the most. Again, keep in mind that these are just what works for me, and may not resonate with everyone, and that's completely okay.
So much love and light to you all in this new year!
