It's September, which means I can finally post my first cold-weather look of the fall! Yay!
Even if it isn't technically fall yet, fall is, after spring, my favorite season. It's so pretty with all the color-changing trees, and, not to mention, it's my favorite time of the year for fashion. Here in Northern California, it doesn't start really cooling down until Halloween, but come September, temperatures do drop a bit from the sweltering summer. So, that means chunky cable knits paired with vintage cutoffs and boots. For as long as I can remember, that's been my fall uniform, and that isn't about to change.
However, one staple piece that I do also love for fall (or any season, really), are these faux leather pants by Hue. They're one of those pieces that travels through my wardrobe throughout the entire year. I'll wear them with a tee and sandals in the summer, and under a nice, thick jacket in the winter. But in those in-between months, I love to pair them with funky tops and sweaters, like this cardigan that I got from the #NSALE earlier this year.
Now, everyone and their mother has been posting about this sweater. Seriously, the day the sale launched, all of my blogger/pr friends were posting about it. I got to shop the sale a day early, so I had no idea what the popular items would be. I just picked out what I liked without giving it a second thought. Lo and behold, this sweater ends up being one of the most popular items in the entire sale. Who knew!
I don't normally like to get items that everyone has, and to be honest, had I known everyone was going to go after this sweater, I probably wouldn't have gotten it. But, I'm glad I did, because I love it. It's so soft and cozy, and the ruffles give it the perfect little touch of something different. I'd totally pair this over a little black dress and some booties, or even over jeans and a tee. I will say though, the ruffles are a little bigger in-person than they are over the internet, so be warned: this sweater is not for the faint of heart.
Oh, and I can't talk about this outfit without talking about these shoes. These Jeffrey Campbell mules are actually clear, but turn purple when your feet sweat??? It's the weirdest thing, but they're so cool. I love how they bring a cool, trendy twist to my normal all-black uniform. Plus, they're super comfortable. Although, with that said, I don't recommend hiking up a San Francisco hill in them like I did. While they may be comfortable, they aren't meant for the long haul. Think of it this way: if you wouldn't do something in your jelly sandals, then you shouldn't do it in these, either.
Now that we've talked about this outfit a bit (which you'll totally see me wearing a ton this season) I wanted to round out this post by doing a little more to celebrate one of my favorite seasons, and round up five of my favorite things about fall! I love lists (like any good type-A person) and have been wanting to do more of them on here. So without further ado, here are some of my favorite things about this season:
1. The color changing leaves (because I'm a basic b**ch)
2. Getting to break out my collection of leather jackets
3. Having fresh apples and baking apple pies (I make a mean pie- just ask my family)
4. Playing in the trees (I love going up to Piedmont or the Oakland Hills and running through the forest)
5. Cold morning hikes
What are your favorite things about / to do in fall? There are sooooo many more I can think of, but I won't bore you to death with a long list. ;)
